Aligning Math in Action with the New York State
Mathematics Standard 3

Authors: Mary Gertsch-Cochran, Sarah McCarty

Grade: Odyssey School-Wide Enrichment

Overview:
Unlike a typical pilot project, this document takes existing units utilized in Math in Action and aligns them with New York State Core Curriculum for Mathematics. Therefore, the usual pilot format has been augmented to fit the needs of a realignment document.

Math is Action is a Type 2 Odyssey program for grades 2-5 that meets weekly for 40 minutes. Students involved in this program typically have above grade level ability in mathematics, problem solving, and creativity.

Although a number of units are taught at each grade level throughout the year, this pilot focuses on realigning and differentiating two specific units per grade level. Other current units have been aligned to fit grade standards, however, due to time constraints, differentiation will occur throughout the school year as time permits.
