Our mission as School Counselors at Plattsburgh High School is to provide a comprehensive counseling program that attends to the personal/social, academic, and career preparation/college planning needs of all students. Services include group and individual counseling, academic support (educational accommodations and interventions), crisis intervention, career and college planning, and student and family advocacy. Our goal is to promote a commitment to life-long learning, personal and academic growth, and to aid students in becoming responsible, culturally aware and productive members of society. This foundation will be supported and further strengthened by consultation with educators, administrators, parents, and community advocates.
It is our philosophy, in the PHS Counseling Department, that all students have equal access to a comprehensive school counseling program, and that this program serves as an integral piece of the overall educational experience. The PHS Counseling Department believes that educational, career, and personal/social goals can be established and achieved by every Plattsburgh High School student. Essential to our philosophy, is the belief that collaboration between school counselors, educators, and parents will ensure that the needs and goals of every student are addressed so that each student can achieve success.
The counseling program at Plattsburgh High School will provide:
- Programming that is comprehensive and developmental in nature and tailored to the developmental, academic, and personal/social needs of every student.
- We are dedicated to meet the standards and addresses the competencies outlined in the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Model, including programming in the academic, personal/social and career education domains.
- A counseling staff that is attentive to and invested in the needs and personal/educational goals of all students.
