Mandatory for all students grades 9-11. Provides for the development of physical fitness, knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for enjoyable participation throughout life in a variety of athletic and recreational activities. Personal wellness, lifetime activities, cooperative learning activities incorporated with games. Activity selection based upon season, facilities available and class size. Evaluation based on attendance, participation and class preparedness.

Athletic Training

This course is an introductory course in athletic training.  Included in the syllabus are, anatomy and physiology of the human body along with the kinesiological and biochemical considerations of the human body in motion.  Students will be introduced to first aid and the prevention and treatment of athletic injuries, conditioning in athletics, rehabilitative techniques, flexibility training, protective training, wrapping and strapping techniques. There will be academic and practical aspects within the course framework.

Adaptive Physical Education

Grades 12

A Physical Education unit for designated students to begin to develop individualized programs to promote physical fitness.  A committee of School Nurse Teachers, Physical Education teachers and in some cases Special Education teachers will determine a number of students who would benefit from this program.
