TESTING
Students in grades two through five participate in standardized achievement testing during the spring of each school year. Students in grade four will take the New York State Pupil Evaluation Program Tests in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science; grade five students will be involved in the NYS Social Studies test in November. Students in other grades will take alternative forms of reading and math tests.
STUDENT PLACEMENT
Your child has been placed in a class that has been heterogeneously grouped. Within that class, students may be placed with other students in a small group or may be taught individually in the subject areas. Our school offers both multiage and traditionally graded classes at all levels.
| Momot Elementary School is once again conducting a Child Advocacy Program which includes Primary Mental Health. This is designed to provide maximum early intervention and to support home-school coordination. Mrs. Suzanne Frechette, Mrs. Kris Lutters, and Mrs. Sharon Pavone (School Psychologists and Child Advocates), are available by appointment if you wish to seek their assistance. | Children are referred to this program by their teachers and/or their parents. Depending on the child's needs, they may meet with a specially trained child-aide and engage in various activities including conversations, directed play, educational games, etc. designed to supplement the classroom curriculum. Some students may receive other services designed specifically to meet their individual needs. |
Parents may contact the School Psychologist or the Child Advocate for more information on this program.
HEALTH SERVICES
Ideally, all medications should be given at home; however, some medications must be given during school hours.
Please note:
A SIGNED DOCTOR'S FORM MUST BE PROVIDED IN ORDER FOR THE SCHOOL TO ADMINISTER ANY MEDICATION.
All medication and the accompanying from MUST BE GIVEN TO THE HEALTH OFFICE in the original prescription container. Teachers may NOT administer any medication. Students may NOT take medication unless supervised by the School-Nurse-Teacher or Health Office Assistant.
TEXTBOOKS, MATERIAL, ETC
Books are furnished by the school district. The only costs will be weekly newspapers and general supplies such as paper, pencils, etc. These charges will be collected during the first weeks of school. It should be understood that parents are responsible for the cost of replacing school-owned books that lost or damaged. Books are checked for condition when issued and upon their return.
HOMEWORK
In many instances, it is necessary and beneficial to the student to perform additional work assignments at home. We ask your cooperation in emphasizing the importance of completing assignments at school and at home. STUDENTS MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR COMPLETING THEIR ASSIGNED HOMEWORK AND TURNING IT IN ON TIME. A brochure detailing homework guidelines will be sent home for each child. A homework assistance room will be offered during the school year.
STUDENT PROGRESS REPORTS
Progress reports, reporting your child's progress in academics, behavior, and effort, are issued four times per year. The first marking term includes scheduled parent/teacher conferences to discuss your child's adjustment to school during the first ten weeks. Reports are made during the months of November, January, April, and June (Pre-K, K, and K-1 issue reports in Nov., Jan. and June only). Conferences may be scheduled at other times upon request of the parent and/or the teacher.
PHYSICAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
All students in grades K-5 are required to participate in physical education classes unless excused, in writing, by your family doctor. Exceptions to this rule (minor illness, slight illness, recuperation periods) must be cleared with the school nurse well in advance of class time. Sneakers are required for physical education classes held in the gym. All students in K-2 will receive two 30 minute periods of Physical Education per week; students in grades 3-5 receive two 35 minute periods.
