A Place Where Hearts and Minds Can Grow

Bailey/Oak Family School Association

Every parent or guardian of a child enrolled in Bailey Avenue School or Oak Street School is automatically a member of the Family School Association (FSA). The philosophy of the FSA is that parents/guardians can and should contribute to their child's education in a positive way and should be included in the school family. The School District policy of Shared Decision Making gives the FSA a vital role in the educational process.

FSA Volunteer Form - please volunteer your time for one (or more) of the many FSA activities.

The Family School Association (FSA) is made up of our parents, teachers and staff. The FSA has been fundraising to produce events to bring students and their families together in the school setting, providing the best possible school experience for our kids. The FSA helps to provide extra things for the students that the school budget does not cover. The FSA has purchased hundreds of books for the libraries, DVRs for the classrooms, and produced the annual yearbook. Also, over the last 6 years, the FSA renovated the playgrounds at Bailey Avenue and Oak Street schools at a cost of over $100,000.

Please know that any help you can give is appreciated. If you are not able to participate in the above events, there are many other opportunities to help within the school. There are reading buddies, community tree decorating night, spring walk, classroom helpers and classroom presenters and Kindergarten registration, to name a few. We are also looking for general help in the form or baking for bake sales, making calls to coordinate an event, or decorating for events.

We would love to see you at the monthly meetings. Your Student/Parent Handbook has a listing of all the other meetings, as well as other dates to mark in your calendar.

Fall Festival

This is our introduction of our parents and kids to the school in a fun setting. We have a Michigan sale, pumpkin painting, face painting and apples on a string. The children can play on the playground and they have a chance to show their parents their classrooms. We have a raffle and bake sale going on as well. We are looking for parents to help serve food, bring items in for the bake sale, help set up or clean up.

Storytelling Night

This is a night designed to continue the excitement of reading for the children. The night is made up of three dads reading stories based on the theme of our reading program for the year. After the stories the children go to the cafeteria for ice cream, served by dads as well. We are looking for dads to help serve food, help set up or clean up.

Winter Clubs

These are clubs scheduled for 4 weeks for the children to stay after school and participate in different areas of interest (i.e. Games Club, Card Club, Martial Arts Club, Gymnastics Club etc). We are looking for parents to help run these groups, and bring your special talents to our children!

Roller Skating

This is held in the gym. The children like to skate to music and have treats after they are done. We are looking for parents to help get roller skates on the children, chaperone the skating, help sell concessions, set up or clean up. This takes place for 6 weeks, but if you cannot do every week, any time you can give is appreciated.

Book Fair

The book fair will be held in the fall and the spring. Books can be purchased by students and parents during this time. We are looking for parents who can work in shifts at the book fair.

Teacher/Staff Appreciation Day

This is a special day to honor our teachers and staff at Bailey Avenue. We are looking for parents to bring in food (hot or cold), help set up or clean up, and to help during the day.

Family Fun Night

This is a great evening for the children and parents. It is a carnival-like atmosphere where the children play games for prizes, and they are always a winner! We need parents to donate cakes for the cake walk (homemade or store bought). The cake walk gives children a chance to win a cake, so the more cakes the better! We have been fortunate to have the Plattsburgh State Women’s Soccer and Volleyball teams to volunteer to help us out with this event so parents can enjoy the evening with their children.
