21st Century Community Learning Center
Policies & Procedures

Calendar & Times

  • The 21st Century Community Learning Center's calendar is identical to the Plattsburgh City School District calendar.
  • When school is not in session the 21st CCLC will not be in session.
  • A regular after-school day runs from dismissal to 6 P.M.
  • Before school and early dismissal day care is offered by the YMCA. To obtained information regarding fees and availability contact Elizabeth Stork-Ruff at 561-4290.

Sign-In/Sign-Out Procedures:

Signing In
At dismissal time, counselors will go to participants’ classrooms and pick up them up. Since at this time, the counselors will be attempting to locate all participants, if your child will be attending school but not the Learning Center Program, please send a note to the teacher. The program counselors can also be available to pick up a student from an intramural or other after-school obligation if they are notified in advance.

Signing Out
Parents/guardians must enter the building to pick up and sign-out their child. Participants will be released to authorized persons only. Persons on file, but not known to the staff, who are picking up children will be asked to show identification. Other dismissal procedures may be arranged but must be in writing and approved by the site director in advance.

Parents are expected to pick up their children by 5:45 PM each day.

Emergency/Accident Procedures/Illness
If your child is not feeling well, a parent will be contacted to come and pick up the child. Please keep your contact information current. If you cannot be reached, we will contact someone on your authorized list.

In the event of a minor injury the child will be attended to by a staff member. Several staff members are certified in CPR and first aid. An accident report will be completed and placed in the child’s personal file.

If a student requires emergency medical attention, the staff will call 911 and notify the parent or emergency contact person.

Discipline Plan
Participants in the Learning Center are expected to follow the rules of their student handbook and other site specific rules. In order to maintain a safe and fun environment, staff will work closely with parents and participants to ensure proper behavior. A system of good discipline helps the group stay on task, behave responsibly and with self-control, and work well with other people.

In the event of a disciplinary problem, the following procedures will be followed.

  • Participant will be given a warning.
  • Participant will be given a time out.
  • A conduct report will be written, which the parent must sign.
  • When three conduct reports have been written, a parent conference will be held.

A participant may be suspended for days, weeks, or permanently depending on the severity of the behavior. Physical aggression against other participants or counselors or running away from program activities may result in immediate suspension.
